Woodcut Media launches trio of factual-themed YouTube channels

Producer/distributor Woodcut Media has launched two YouTube channels that play into the company’s strength in factual & entertainment programming. A third is being prepared for a late February launch date.

The three channels include The Essential Guide, a lifestyle channel using previous Woodcut content that has been repurposed. This will soon be producing originals. The other channels are: true crime channel True Crime Uncut, a combination of unseen footage/archive, original docs and Woodcut library; and History Uncut – similar to TCU, launching in February.

Speaking to The Drop, Kate Beal, founder and CEO of Woodcut Media, said the channels are “a brand new venture for Woodcut using our strength as pioneering content producers. In 2020, we launched our own distribution outfit so direct to consumer is a logical next step.”

Beal said Woodcut has been researching the market and listening to best practice for the past year. She added: “This is entirely self-funded by Woodcut and is an investment in our future. At this stage we have a team of six people dedicated to launching the channels and producing the content. However, many other members of Team Woodcut are inputting – from creative, to production management support, to general cheerleading.”

True Crime is a particular strength at Woodcut. Beal said: “We’ve partnered with CrimeCon UK for True Crime Uncut, which is providing their monthly book club content. Soon, we’re also launching a True Crime Producers podcast.”

Beal said the growth strategy “is 100% organic. We are not racing to get as many viewers as we can in the first couple of weeks. We’re here to learn and in it for the long haul.”
