TellyCast has today published the shortlists for the first ever edition of the Digital Video Awards, a ground-breaking new awards programme designed to recognise excellence, creativity and innovation in digital-first production and distribution.

Altogether, around 100 entries are competing across 23 categories – with BBC Studios, ITV Studios, 4Studios, Aardman, Quintus Studios, LADbible Group, After Party, Wall of Entertainment and Cowshed Studios among those in the mix.

Among the most popular categories is the prestigious Studio Of The Year, which pitches some of the media industry’s heavyweights against digital-first’s rising stars. The format and channel tracks also attracted high levels of interest – with a diverse line up of contenders across a range of programming genres.

Justin Crosby, founder of TellyCast, remarked, “We launched the TellyCast Digital Video Awards to spotlight the incredible work of creators, brands, and production teams pushing the envelope in digital media. I’m delighted to say that the industry has responded with enthusiasm. The volume and quality of entries is fantastic, and we look forward to unveiling the winners at our awards event.”

Not surprisingly, the majority of entries are YouTube productions. But the inaugural line-up also includes some fascinating examples of work from TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and various on-demand platforms.

Judged by a panel of sector leaders, the Awards acknowledge those breaking new ground in storytelling, engagement, and creative vision on social and digital platforms. In addition to awards for studios, channels and formats, there are also shortlists for podcasts, FAST channels and branded content. In recognition of the digital-first industry’s amazing talent base, there is an Unsung Hero award.

Full details of the DVA ceremony will be published in the coming few days. “It promises to be the biggest night of the digital content calendar, honouring a wide range of achievements in the digital video arena” said Crosby.
