Distributor and channel owner Quintus Studios has unveiled a new Quintus Original digital-first observational documentary series entitled Drug Wars.

Over the course of the series, Drug Wars will explore drug hotspots worldwide to reveal the unvarnished realities of traffickers and the high-stakes world they navigate.

The premiere episode, Drug Wars: Inside Kano’s Underworld (1 x 60’), debuts on Quintus’ AVOD channel Free Documentary. It investigates the complex and hazardous landscape of drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State, Northern Nigeria.

The opening episode was written and produced by Christian Ahaiwe of A13 Films. In a region grappling with widespread substance abuse, it highlights the individuals driving the trade and examines the economic and social forces fuelling this enterprise.

Quintus Originals is Quintus Studios’ hybrid digital and linear TV production model which sees the business commission broadcast length documentary content for its AVOD channel network and distribute the content globally to linear TV networks.

Quintus Studios creative director Adam Jacobs, who is executive producing the first episode, said: “This is the inside story of Kano’s drug problem as told by those who live it and try to prevent it. It’s another Quintus Original where access was key to the narrative. Christian and the team secured some eye-opening interviews and footage.”

Quintus has a strong factual content catalogue and owns and operates a group of factual AVOD channels with over 13 million subscribers including Free Documentary. It also operates the Quintus Content Club, a factual co-financing initiative designed to streamline the development and fundraising of factual series.
