Netflix’s raid on social media talent continued this week with the news that the global platform has struck a deal to stream content starring YouTube preschool educator Rachel Accurso, aka Ms Rachel.  This is not the first time Netflix has turned to the Google-owned video sharing platform for preschool content, having previously acquired rights to Moonbug Entertainment global hit CoComelon.

Starting on January 27, four episodes of Ms. Rachel will be available to stream in a curated compilation of her playful, research-backed videos. Speaking via its in-house publication Tudum, Netflix said: “Ms. Rachel is a beloved and passionate educator whose videos for her popular YouTube channel inspire “littles” and their families to learn and bond together. Incorporating singing, dancing, and play, Ms. Rachel’s videos help children learn how to talk and express themselves and their emotions.”

The four-episode season of Ms. Rachel will include interactive lessons that teach letters, numbers, colours, shapes, and more. The episodes will be available in English with subtitles in 33 languages, giving Ms. Rachel the potential to reach even more families around the world.  Netflix added that more episodes will come later this year.

Ms Rachel’s YouTube channel has 13.1m subscribers and 118 videos, most of which come in between 30 and 60 minutes in length. Netflix said that she has clocked up around 1 billion views since the channel launched in 2019. Just for good measure, Mr Rachel has also clocked up an enthusiastic 5.6m followers on TikTok.
