COPA90, the global football media brand, has launched a new original a four-part documentary series following Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup winning campaign.

Once in a Lifetime: Argentina, dropped on COPA90’s YouTube channel and will be marked by events in six cities worldwide.

The documentary explores Argentina’s victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, examining its significance beyond sport. Directed by Eli Mengem, the series delves into the cultural and social impact of the win, placing it within the context of Argentina’s long-standing challenges with economic instability and national identity.

The production focuses on Argentina itself, capturing the emotions of its people as the team achieved their first World Cup win in 36 years. The series highlights the role of Lionel Messi, portraying how he embraced Argentina’s distinctive footballing spirit, which became pivotal to both his success and the team’s.

Mengem, who has directed several football-focused films, described the documentary as a reflection of Argentina’s complex relationship with football and its broader role in society. “The people of Argentina say they live on the line between hell and glory. This series shows how football has provided a sense of joy and hope amid the struggles of daily life,” he said.

COPA90 CEO Tom Thirlwall said the series reflects the brand’s commitment to storytelling that goes beyond traditional sports coverage. “This is not just about Argentina winning the World Cup; it’s about understanding what that victory means to millions of people,” he explained.

The release will be accompanied by watch parties in Buenos Aires, London, New York, Miami, Melbourne, and Montreal. These events will feature screenings and discussions with figures from football and cultural communities.

Once in a Lifetime: Argentina will be available to stream in full on COPA90’s YouTube channel from 18 December.
