LumoTV, home of deaf entertainment, launches revamped YouTube channel

LumoTV, formerly known as the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust, is launching a newly revamped YouTube channel. Going live on May 2, 2025, the channel will expand access to LumoTV’s films and programmes beyond its website.

LumoTV commissions content that highlights the deaf and sign language communities.  Established in 2008, it is the only sign language-based commissioning body in the world. This decision to launch a YouTube channel is part of LumoTV’s commitment to making content accessible and convenient across all devices.

Ashley Kendall, head of communications and distribution, said: “Launching our YouTube channel has been such an exciting project. It’s a big step in expanding our audience and giving them the flexibility to watch LumoTV on their smart TV, on-demand, and for free. In our 17 years of existence, that’s never been possible before.”

LumoTV’s updated channel will feature full-length programmes, as well as shorts, within curated playlists designed to help users explore content with ease.

The organisation regularly commissions content across genres. This year, for example, it has greenlit The Chris Baker Show: How to Get Rich, which follows the hilarious antics of Chris Baker, a charming but clueless deaf man determined to achieve his dreams of wealth. Combining elements of mockumentary and drama, the show offers a unique and engaging viewing experience.

Also launched in 2025 is Where The Light Gets In, a powerful film created by an entirely female-led team. The story follows a deaf mother whose anxiety begins to affect her relationships, putting her at risk of losing her son. A Drummer Television production for LumoTV, the film is written by Rebecca A. Withey and directed by Clare-Louise English. All stills photos by Becky Bailey.
