Streaming giant Netflix has commissioned a version of digital-first counselling series Blue Therapy for its global audience. The series, which started life on YouTube, is being made by Luti Fagbenle’s production company Osun Group.
Blue Therapy provides an intimate look into the lives and relationships of culturally diverse young couples and offers an intriguing perspective on modern dating.
Commenting on the news, Fagbenle said: “This commission marks a significant milestone for Osun Group as we embark on delivering high-quality, engaging content to a global audience, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Netflix.”
Blue Therapy started out on YouTube channel TrendCntrl and quickly built a passionate fanbase. Overall, the series averaged two million views per episode, across 15 territories including the UK, US, Nigeria, Australia and South Africa.
At this point, it was spotted by UK broadcaster Channel 4, which greenlit its own six part version of the show for E4. Global TV distributor All3Media International also got involved, taking the series out to the global market as a format.
The Netflix commission is a major coup for Osun and further evidence that traditional media platforms are looking for the next big thing in digital first. Casting is now underway, according to Fagbenle: “If you’re a couple ready to embark on a life-changing journey, apply today at: www.osun.group/btcasting,” he said.
