Digital first producer Crash launches esports-meets-rapper format Got Game

Digital first company Crash Productions has launched a new digital series called Got Game. The youth-focused series sees celebrities from rap and hip-hop compete together in an esports league, where they’ll battle it out in an elimination tournament.

The pilot episode (pictured) is available via the Got Game League channel on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. It features two prominent UK rappers, as well as three influencers. Explaining the format in more detail, Crash co-founder Christie Toal said: “This is the chance to see your favourite MCs battle it out against each other playing classic games like Call of Duty, FIFA, Fortnite, NBA 2K, Tekken and Grand Theft Auto. The series will open up a private world where hip-hop stars and celebrities are already playing each other or streaming their gaming via platforms like Twitch.”

Toal added that the unscripted video gaming league “will provide an opportunity for UK hip hop stars to engage with their fans in new ways via social media. For the audience, they’ll see and be able to engage with their favourite rappers in a new light.”

Toal said that Crash won a business innovation grant to fund the first episode of the project, and support the company’s move to launch and grow its own channels. Got Game, which is supported by British Esports, is being shown on Crash’s own social channels with plans to grow the project and run ticketed events.  “This is an example of us pivoting to create our own digital engagement and growth.”

Wales-based Crash has already carved out a strong position in digital first, with content for Channel 4.0 including MIST’Driven, Bling Kings and Like or Death.
